Greetings!
For some of us a job search can come up unexpectedly,
however if you are thinking it’s time to begin the sometimes long and
arduous search of changing your job, or even your career path. Here are
some helpful hints to get in gear.
-
Figure out what kind of job you
would like and what you are qualified for. Target your hunt! Don’t
waste your time chasing leads just because you might be “kind-of”
capable of the job!
-
Write down your skills! Recognize
what you’re good at- include your education and/or training you’ve
had. Don’t sell yourself short as you may have more than you realize
once you organize your thoughts.
-
Decide what your personal likes and
dislikes are. The last thing you want to do is apply to a
job that will be an hour commute when you know you won’t drive for
more than 20 minutes! Be realistic, but figure out what you “must”
have for job satisfaction versus what you would “prefer” to have.
Figure out a system that works for
you, but make sure you know:
-
Who you’ve contacted
-
What you’ve applied for
-
Which recruiters you’re working with
-
Where you’ve kept that updated resume
-
Why you wanted to talk to the person that’s
finally calling you back!
Try to remember that the time to be attentive of all
this information is not when you are under pressure to hurry up and find
a new job! Try to be conscious of the changing industries around you and
keep your eyes open for opportunities, just so you’re not too
overwhelmed when and if the time comes for a real job search. Adding
this kind of structure to a search will cut down on time and stress; the
changing economy suggests you should be continually aware of the market.
