Gaining by Giving?
Corporate involvement in charitable organizations and sponsorships has been a growing trend for some time. Employees and executives enjoy having the opportunity to get involved in causes and benefits that are important to them. Cause related groups strongly rely on support, and corporations are often able to raise a large amount of funding and/or awareness. Outside of the inherent value of giving to great causes, companies may experience other gains as well.
Gain Positive PR
Sponsoring an event or having a corporate team present is a great way to build brand awareness. Your organization will be viewed in good favor as it shares in support of important causes. Additionally, events that a company sponsors or volunteers at provide great networking opportunities and the chance to build more solid relationships with potential business partners and clients.
Gain Stronger Bonds among Employees
Volunteer events bring out sides of employees that are not always displayed in the office. Leadership qualities may become more prominent in individuals, as people must rely on different strengths to complete the tasks at hand. Collaborative efforts in volunteering lead to stronger team relationships which are often carried back to the workplace. In organizations where employees are separated by divisions and departments, a volunteer day might provide the opportunity to mingle with coworkers they would not normally meet. This, in turn, also leads to stronger interdepartmental ties.
Gain Improved Employee Engagement
As many employees enjoy volunteering and charity, their loyalty towards an organization is likely to increase if opportunities for such participation exist. Corporate community involvement could lead to increased enthusiasm among employees, which in turn could positively impact their engagement. Employees might even want to help plan service oriented events or activities, which is another benefit involving participation.
Gain an Increase in Overall Employee Satisfaction
It seems to be a growing trend that candidates are inquiring about a potential employer’s involvement in the community. Those who enjoy giving back will be drawn to organizations that uphold that same value. It’s also good when an organization provides a means for employees to benefit, in ways that are not directly related to their career.
When a company donates its time, energy and/or financial resources to a charitable cause or event, the recipients are not the only ones who benefit. There are a number of rewards organizations reap from such activities, and some are as simple as the almost immediate great feeling and sense of accomplishment giving back provides.
